What I Eat During The Holiday Season

The holiday season is always a difficult time to try & get healthy, both mentally & physically. It’s pretty ironic that after a season of overindulging in every way, shape, & form, we go straight into a season where people vow to give up everything “bad” for them. I’m guilty of it, too, but this year I made a better vow to myself that I would incorporate a few tips & tricks to help me stay on track so I can look & feel my best. Below I’m sharing those little things I do so I can still enjoy all the holidays have to offer while starting on those New Year’s resolutions a bit earlier.

1. It’s OK To “Pick”: One of the hardest parts about the holiday season is you’re constantly surrounded by food. Countertops are filled with platters & tables are dedicated to desserts making it seemingly impossible to avoid. I’m all about moderation as I’ve found depriving myself of anything backfires totally. So when I get the urge to “pick” I always start with about 20 blueberries. Sometimes, it’s just the temptation of being around other foods, sometimes you’re bored & it’s in your head, & sometimes you’re truly hungry. Regardless of what it is, at least I know I’m having a healthy snack instead of the other alternatives. This quick break (or what I like to call my #BlueberryBreak) to snack on blueberries provides me with loads of refreshing flavor, leaves me feeling energized, & saves me tons of regret!

2. Mix Your Flavors: I get it, Grandma only makes her famous cake once a year & there’s no chance you’re skipping out on a slice. While I’m all for indulging now & then, I also try to be realistic & would suggest asking Grandma to toss a handful of blueberries into her bread for some added nutrients. Hey, it’ll even add some delicious flavor! These small changes guarantee you at least a bit more nutrients & let’s be honest, blueberries make any dish look better (just look at those waffles!).

3. Load Up On Healthy Goodness: Between travel, little sleep, & lots of stress the holidays can definitely take a toll on our bodies. When I get overwhelmed or have had a long day, I like to find a few minutes just for myself (aka my #BlueberryBreak I mentioned earlier) & read a book or watch a show while enjoying some blueberries. Even if it’s just for a few minutes, I always feel energized, refreshed, & less stressed from those few minutes.
