While California Rolls may be one of the most simple sushi rolls out there, this California Roll Poke Recipe is far from basic. After creating our Sushi Burger recipe & realizing just how easy it was to do so, we were determined to create similar style recipes. This California Poke recipe is different than a typical Poke Bowl since it’s constructed to stand on it’s own. Formed from a sticky rice base, we topped our Poke with sliced cucumber, avocado, spicy crab meat, & a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
This recipe can easily be created to match any type of sushi you like. As long as you have your sticky rice base that is at least 3/4 inch tall you should be all set! We created this masterpiece using a mini springform pan (same as for our Sushi Burger) which makes this so easy to assemble in under 5 minutes! Plus the springform basically guarantees that you’ll have the perfect shaped Poke. The first step is to cook your sticky rice according to the packages instructions. Once that is done, fill the bottom of the pan with it so it’s roughly 3/4-1 inch tall. Slice 1/4 cucumber & place slices on top of rice. Cut up half an avocado & place pieces of that on top of the cucumber slices. Next, top your Poke with the spicy crab mix & sprinkle on some sesame seeds. Open the springform pan & just like that you’re a sushi chef!
