Where To Eat: Tallboy Taco

We’re huge fans of anything Lettuce Entertain You does. The reputable Chicago based restaurant group is responsible for 50+ incredible restaurants including our latest favorite, Tallboy Taco. A casual & fun restaurant located within Nacional 27, Tallboy Taco serves up some of the best Mexican food in the city. Not to mention impeccable decor including graffitied walls, plants galore, bikes hanging from the ceiling, a colorful patio, & a custom salsa bar to name a few! Tallboy Taco manages to make you feel like you’re away from the city, on vacation somewhere much, much warmer while at the same time, still maintaining a comfortable & homey vibe.

While at most Mexican restaurants there is a simple option for chips & salsa or guacamole to start with, Tallboy Taco had some of the best appetizers we’ve ever had. As much as we love salsa & guac, we decided to go for something a little more unique since the opportunity was there. The Corn Fundido appetizer is a must order at Tallboy Taco. Made with corn, queso, lime, cilantro, & served with freshly made chips, this delicious dip was hearty yet refreshing all in one crispy bite.

Next up was something a bit lighter, the Kale Salad. Made with a chili lime dressing, this salad was a Mexican take on your typical Caesar salad. Crunchy, fresh, zesty, light, & creamy–what more could you want in a salad?!

Next up was the Cheese Crisp made with Chihuahua Cheese, Pico de Gallo, & topped with fresh guacamole. Essentially an open face quesadilla or as we like to call it, a Mexican pizza, we truly enjoyed this dish with the beer salsa from the Salsa Bar. Yup, you read that right, salsa made fresh with beer!

On to the entrees… At Tallboy Taco, you can choose between 8 carefully curated tacos for your meal. Our suggestion? Order one of each & share with a friend. Better yet, order one of each & take the leftovers home with you (if you have any…). We absolutely adored the Chicken Tinga Taco & the Crispy Avocado Taco. Both a classic taco but with Tallboy’s special touch of flavoring such as pickled onions & beer battered avocado. If you’re looking for a more refreshing option try the Pork Al Pastor Taco made with pineapple that melts in your mouth or the Grilled Salmon Taco with a roasted corn salsa.

Talk about refreshing! For dessert we ordered Paletas, which as you can see from the image below, is Spanish for popsicles. All made with fresh ingredients in house, these Paletas come in flavors such as: Fresca, Passion Fruit with Chile, Cucumber Lime, & so many more. Our personal favorites? Melon & Horchata. Perfect to finish your meal with, you can enjoy these treats on your way out the door or while taking in the comfortable patio vibes.

Make sure to check out Tallboy Taco at 325 W. Huron St., Chicago, IL.
