French Fry Bun With Black Bean Burger Recipe

Labor Day typically marks the last weekend of summer where we can spend the entire weekend outside eating tons of burgers, fries, hot dogs, beans, pasta salad–all the works. It’s our last chance to indulge in these types of food without any guilt as sadly Labor Day means colder temperatures are right around the corner. This year we decided to combine a few of our favorite Labor Day dishes into one delicious meal. Ladies & gentleman, meet the Labor Day meal of your dreams: a black bean burger with french fry buns!

Like we said, burgers, beans, & fries are always staples at our Labor Day get togethers so why not throw them all together into one delicious & incredibly exciting meal. Friends & family will be amazed that you created such a thing & your stomach will surely thank you as well. Made using a BBQ staple, Bush’s Beans, this burger combines two of our favorite items burgers & beans. For those health conscious individuals at your party (because let’s be real there’s always at least one of ’em) the black bean burger itself is an awesome healthy option. Ditch the buns (more for us!) & indulge in the burger dipped in some delicious hummus for a tasty meal. This burger can always be made with Smokehouse Beans & Steakhouse Beans for added flavor. Simply swap out the black beans or do half & half with one of the flavors above!

Ingredients

  • for the fries:
  • 4 medium russet potatoes
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • for the bun:
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • for the burgers:
  • 1 15 oz can Bush’s Black Beans, drained
  • heaping ½ cup old fashioned oats
  • 1½ tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ¼ cup plain breadcrumbs
  • ¾ cup corn
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 stick scallion
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ¾ cup yellow onion, diced
  • for cooking:
  • 4 tbsp EVOO

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400F. Cut potatoes into small thin, long rectangles.
  • Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Throw all ingredients into a Ziploc bag & toss until potatoes are fully coated. Pour fries onto parchment paper so that they are next to one another not on top of each other.
  • Bake fries for 45 minutes, flipping after 30 minutes.
  • Take 3 cups of the french fries & place them in a large mixing bowl. Add in the eggs & flour & toss to combine. Pour french fry mixture into the mini springform pan. Place in freezer for 20 minutes.
  • Remove pan from freezer & place large skillet over medium heat. Open springform pan & drop the mixture gently onto the skillet. Cook for 8-10 minutes & then flip & cook for another 8 minutes. Make sure all sides are cooked as well by carefully rotating the pan or bun. Set aside.
  • Wash & drain beans. Add all ingredients to food processor. Blend until smooth.
  • Pour mixture into bowl & freezer for 1 hour. Pour EVOO into large skillet. Roll mixture into 4 burgers & place in oil (if difficult to make patties, either freeze for longer or use clean mini springform pan again for shaping). Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side. Remove from oil & set aside.
  • Place burger patty on top of bun & top with another bun. Serve & enjoy!
